Overdale Street in St. James reopens following heavy police presence

Residents have been allowed to return home following a large police presence on Overdale Street between Ness Avenue and Bruce Avenue in St. James.

On Monday afternoon, Winnipeg police said they were focusing on a house in the 300 block of Overdale and negotiating with a man who had threatened to harm himself.

Police were asking the public to stay away from the area and to take direction from officers on scene if necessary.

A neighbour told Global News he was asked by police to grab his dog and get out of the area as fast as he can.

Late Monday night, Winnipeg police tweeted the situation had been safely resolved and said Overdale had reopened.

They said the suspect was taken into custody.
