ParticipACTION Community Challenge

Power 97 is proud to support ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk running June 1st – 30th!

Together we move!

Get ready to participate this June to get active, connect with others and help your community be crowned Canada’s Most Active Community and win $100,000 to support local sport and physical activity initiatives!

About the challenge

  • The ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk is a national physical activity and sport initiative that encourages everyone in Canada to get active throughout June in search of Canada’s Most Active Community.
  • The Community Challenge is open to all communities and individuals, ultimately recognizing Canada’s Most Active Community and awarding it with $100,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.

  • In addition to the prize for the national winner, there will also be a prize for the most active community in each province and territory.
    • One community in each of the remaining 12 provinces and territories will receive between $7,500 and $15,000 to support local physical activity and sport initiatives.
    • Throughout June, ParticipACTION will be recognizing and awarding organizations that are championing the challenge in their community. Follow us on social media to see which organizations win prizes!
  • The challenge will kick off on Saturday, June 1, 2024, which is also National Health and Fitness Day. Many YMCAs, recreation centres and gyms across the country will be offering free programming and opportunities to get active.

  • The challenge mobilizes communities across the country and strengthens their capacity to support people in getting active where they live, learn, work and play.

The challenge helps facilitate low-barrier, inclusive opportunities for physical activity and sport participation among people in Canada while rewarding engaged communities that get active.

  • ParticipACTION will award some organizations with grants of up to $1,500 to remove barriers and increase physical activity and sport participation and retention for equity-denied groups.

  • Everyone in Canada should have access to quality sport and physical activity opportunities that help them grow and thrive—physically, emotionally and socially. No matter who you are, you should enjoy the many benefits of getting active – however you define it. Joining the Community Challenge and getting active with others in your community can be more fun, motivating and help create a sense of belonging.
  • The focus of the 2024 challenge is on engaging as many people and organizations as possible in each participating community.

  • Individuals can participate in the challenge by signing up on the ParticipACTION website. By doing so, they are committing to getting active throughout June and contributing to their community’s score.
  • Communities, organizations, schools and workplaces can register any of their events or activities taking place during the challenge period (June 1 to 30, 2024) on the ParticipACTION website. After their events or activities take place, they can record how many participants took part in each. Every registered event or activity and every participant tracked will count towards their community’s progress in the challenge.

  • There aren’t any set parameters on how intense or long each physical activity needs to be. From an afternoon office fit break to a weekend hockey practice, ParticipACTION wants participating organizations to track it all!

  • By registering for the challenge, individuals and organizations are committing to getting active throughout June. ParticipACTION will provide tips on how people can get active during the month, and participants will be able to see which organizations from their community have registered on the ParticipACTION website.
    • Participants will also be able to see how participating communities are doing throughout the challenge by viewing the leaderboard on the website.

  • The ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk is proudly funded by the Government of Canada, Novo Nordisk, and supporting partner, Saputo.
